Socialists' offer to voters in Norðvestur kjördæmi:ENSURE RESIDENCE AND EQUALISE LIVING STANDARDS– DEVELOPMENT BASED ON PUBLIC INTEREST INSTEAD OF SPECIAL INTERESTSHousing affairs
The state and municipalities must immediately take measures to ensure that a low supply of rental housing does not hinder communities in the constituency.
Sufficient supply of housing at a fair price and of rental housing for moderate rent is a prerequisite for people, and especially low-income people, to be able to enjoy the important right to have a secure home for themselves and their families. Lack of suitable housing leads to people being forced to move from communities where they prefer to live and work, and deprives them of the right to choose their residence. Housing shortage is also a great threat to the economy and businesses that lack staff to operate and thrive, and various opportunities for job creation are lost because of this.
We will therefore fight with all our might for the state and municipalities to fulfill their important duty to ensure people the opportunity to own or rent housing where they prefer to live and work.
Employment affairs
Socialists emphasize an environmentally friendly employment policy and the formulation of a comprehensive environmental policy in aquaculture for the future. The fisheries management system must be utilized to secure the communities and ensure the livelihood security of fishermen, fisherwomen, and fish processing workers in the area. For the development of smaller coastal towns, hook and line fishing must be significantly increased without affecting other fishing quotas. Good internet connection must be ensured in the area and an increase in remote work jobs in the public sector encouraged.
Ensured security of electricity supply
To ensure the safety of people and a stable economy, the security of energy supply must be ensured and the energy costs of the nation equalized. It is a priority to improve the security of energy supply in the Westfjords so that Westfjords residents are on equal footing with other Icelanders in energy matters.
Health and welfare services
Access to healthcare for people in rural areas is unacceptable and must be improved. The state and municipalities are obliged to provide good welfare services to all people, regardless of where they choose to live. Disabled people, the elderly, immigrants, and other groups of people are often at a disadvantage and therefore need the support of society, and have an unequivocal right to it according to laws and human rights conventions. If people do not receive that support in their home community and where they prefer to live, they are often forced to move to where the support is greater and better.
We will therefore fight with all our might for the state and municipalities to ensure safe and good welfare services for all who need them, regardless of where people choose to live. This is both a regional development and human rights issue.
Transport improvements
The development of tourism infrastructure in scattered settlements needs to be improved, and access to them ensured with continued road improvements in peripheral areas and on national roads. The current state of the road network is a threat to people's safety and employment security in the area.
Environmental protection
Socialists support the establishment of a national park in the constituency and want that nature should not be sacrificed for short-term considerations in development.
Culture and arts
Socialists want to strengthen cultural activities as a growing industry and that public contributions to arts and culture should also be used as a leveling tool for work and residence.
