Statement regarding the actions of the United States against Venezuela

The Socialist Party of Iceland condemns the unlawful and despicable attack by the United States on Venezuela and the kidnapping of Venezuela's presidential couple.

This abhorrent imperialism is entirely unjustifiable and follows a path most similar to the illegal invasion of Iraq by the United States, along with numerous other examples. All with the obvious purpose of seizing the oil resources of a sovereign state under the obviously false pretext of unproven and unsubstantiated accusations of drug smuggling.

This attack threatens world peace and the security of Iceland as a sovereign small state.

The Socialist Party of Iceland calls upon the government of Iceland to immediately condemn these violations of international law and to employ all means to resist these criminal acts.

Let us stand for peace and against war.
