Statement on US actions against Venezuela

The Socialist Party of Iceland condemns the illegal and despicable attack by the United States on Venezuela and the kidnapping of the Venezuelan presidential couple.

This abhorrent imperialism is entirely unjustifiable and follows a path most similar to the illegal US invasion of Iraq, along with numerous other examples. All with the blatant purpose of seizing the oil resources of a sovereign state under the obviously false pretext of unproven and unsubstantiated accusations of drug smuggling.

This attack threatens world peace and the security of Iceland as a sovereign small state.

The Socialist Party of Iceland calls on the Icelandic government to immediately condemn these violations of international law and to use all means to resist these criminal acts.

Let us stand for peace and against war.
