February 9, 2018Should the Socialist Party of Iceland run in the election this spring?
Now the moment of decision has arrived: Should the Socialist Party run in the municipal electionsthis spring? If so; in which municipalities? What should the party emphasize? How does class struggle manifest in municipal councils? And how should the party wage its election campaign?
At the Socialist Congress (Sósíalistaþing) at the end of January, a possible candidacy was discussed, and various viewpoints were expressed. It was decided to initiate a discussion among members and then resume the discussion at a general membership meeting. To foster the discussion, meetings have been held in districts of Reykjavík and in the largest municipalities. By the time of the meeting in Rúgbrauðsgerðin, 13 such meetings have been held in 13 days.
The meeting on municipal candidacies starts at 2 PM on Sunday, February 18th. It is held in Rúgbrauðsgerðin and starts at 2 PM. The meeting is divided into general discussions and dialogue and processing in smaller discussion groups.

Alongside discussions about candidacies, cells and the party's policy work will be discussed, as both will be significant in a candidacy, if it materializes.
All members of the Socialist Party can attend the meeting and participate in it, including those who join the party on site.
