Further discussion on candidacy

At the Socialist Congress (Sósíalistaþing) on Saturday, January 20th, there was a discussion about the party's possible candidacy for municipal councils this spring. A large number of attendees spoke. Many wanted to run and believed the party had an urgent role in municipal councils, which handle many important interests of wage earners and the general public. Others wanted the party to focus on trade unions and other public organizations in the coming months and feared that candidacies would disperse efforts and attention. Still others were of mixed opinions. Numerous viewpoints were discussed regarding the socialists' mission, methods of struggle, priorities, and potential for influence.

The Socialist Congress entrusted the Executive Board (Framkvæmdastjórn) to encourage discussions among party members about candidacy, gather the views of as many as possible, and soon call a membership meeting where a decision would be made about candidacy for municipal councils.
