Response from the Executive Board (Framkvæmdastjórn) of the Socialist Party of Iceland

The Executive Board (Framkvæmdastjórn)The Executive Board of the Socialist Party of Iceland expresses surprise at the city councilor's comments where she says that: "it's no secret that the new board of the Socialist Party has not wholeheartedly supported the city council group."The Executive Board of the Socialist Party completely rejects these comments. The Executive Board has, on the contrary, since the general meeting in spring, repeatedly sought cooperation and dialogue with Sanna. After many months of attempts, she finally agreed to a meeting with the Executive Board but refused to meet the Executive Board alone, as other city councilors of the party had already done. No willingness to cooperate was evident from Sanna Magdalena at that meeting. These are not the only falsehoods Sanna has spread about the Executive Board. In an interview on Samstaðan on September 1st, she said the Executive Board wanted to interfere unduly with city councilors and the city council group. There has been no interference, as Sanna has ignored most attempts by the Executive Board to engage in dialogue.Since the party's general meeting in spring, Sanna has repeatedly taken a stance against the party. She participated in the takeover of Vorstjarnan, the housing association of the Socialist Party, and thereby a large part of the party's state funding. As a board member of the illegal board of Vorstjarnan, Sanna participated in illegally evicting her own party. Many of the party's assets are still in the premises and cannot be handed over. Sanna has publicly expressed support for individuals whom the Socialist Party has reported to the police, among other things for embezzlement. Such conduct by a politician towards their own party is unprecedented in Icelandic political history. It is clear that Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir does not wholeheartedly support the Socialist Party and does not recognize democratic elections within the party.Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir has for most of her career worked as a professional politician, an elected representative of the Socialist Party. Judging by her comments about a possible candidacy with another party, she seems to be looking more towards her own political career than the interests of her own party and the advancement of social democracy in Iceland. The Executive Board of the Socialist Party urges Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir to be clear and honest and resign from the Socialist Party of Iceland. The Executive Board wishes Sanna well in everything she decides to undertake.
