Housing security is a fundamental right. We say stop to the trend where investors and private entities control the development of the town while people struggle to make ends meet. Socialists in Kópavogur demand the construction of non-profit apartments. We should build for people, not just investors. Only then can we work towards a solution to the housing crisis.
Kópavogur should be a town where families thrive. We intend to advocate for lowering the cost of preschool places – this is a political decision that the town can and should make to ease the burden on people. We want a strong school system where professional work is respected and working conditions are such that both children and staff can flourish.
We demand that full accessibility for disabled and mobility-impaired individuals be ensured in all development, especially in the heart of the town where density is highest. We should also listen more closely to the experiences and needs of senior citizens; our town should serve people of all ages and ensure that no one is left behind in the development of society.
There is a need for real improvements in public transport, with better buses, the return of night buses, and continued development of active travel modes throughout the town. The goal is to make everyday life more convenient with diverse travel options so that everyone can choose the method that suits them best. Transport should simplify life, not complicate it.
We want to bring residents back to the drawing board. The town's planning should not be decided in closed rooms with the interests of contractors as the guiding principle. We advocate for increased citizen democracy where people in the neighborhoods have a real impact on their immediate environment. As a symbol of a flourishing community and culture, we want to ensure summer all year round in Kópavogur with a magnificent greenhouse for the public. A place where culture and community life can thrive regardless of weather and wind.
There is no shortage of projects in Kópavogur, but we know that many hands make light work. We intend to unwind outsourcing and ensure that the town's funds work for the residents and do not flow into the pockets of private entities in the form of outsourcing.
X-J to build the community together
