May 26, 2018More intend to vote socialist
Declarations of support for socialists are pouring in on Facebook. Here is a small excerpt.
Þorsteinn Guðmundsson, actor and stand-up comedian:„After considerable deliberation (as is natural when many good options are available), I have decided to vote for Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir and the Socialist Party today. I think she will be a great city councilor. Enjoy the day and the freedom to cast your vote today.“
Birgitta Jónsdóttir, former Pirate MP:„I have decided to vote for the Socialist Party this time. The reason for this is that I want them to get to the table and be able to find a way to activate the large and diverse support base that is already present and has been activated incredibly quickly and well. I have no other expectations than that the Socialist Party will utilize all the knowledge and power that is awakening and give all these people the tools to be able to exert themselves with full force.”
Mikael Torfason writer:„I wouldn't dream of telling you what to vote for, but on Saturday I will vote for the Socialist Party X-J.“
Einar Scheving drummer:„I have kept a low political profile recently – perhaps a combination of resignation and maturity – as little seems to change regarding corruption and special interest lobbying by politicians in our beautiful country. However, I am going to vote for the Socialist Party on Saturday, as the discourse of the party leader has been a fresh breeze into an otherwise rather tired debate recently.“
Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir actress:„After this evening's discussions, I am convinced of the necessity for Sanna Magdalena, on behalf of the Socialist Party of Iceland, to get a seat in the city. No one said anything that came close to the wisdom that came from her – that societies will only be successful if they are conceived based on the needs of the worst-off and by giving the poorest people a say in it. Bingo!“
Eyþór Gunnarsson musician:„I voted for the Socialist Party because I believe in its mission in society. Its discourse is wholesome and convincing.“
