January 29, 2019Socialist Student Movement - Founding Meeting
Students are a large and diverse group that has no common spokesperson or advocate. It is long overdue to change that, as education is a fundamental element in a good society and should be truly accessible to everyone.
The Socialist Student Movement is intended to be a driving force for student rights, with an emphasis on ensuring access to education for all, regardless of financial situation, class, origin, or other circumstances that often hinder people from pursuing and undertaking studies.
We want to hear from everyone who is studying, has studied, or wants to study. The goal is to create a movement that draws attention to the systemic inequality that has occurred within the system, despite the persistent myth that education is accessible to everyone in Iceland.
Students (former, current, and prospective) at all educational levels and in all types of studies welcome!
Agenda:
Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir, city councilor, anthropologist, and former student, opens the discussion with her experience story of student loans and student housing.
Open microphone for those who want to share their stories/reflections.
Afterwards, guests are invited to engage in an informal chat in a relaxed café atmosphere. DJ Laufey will play all kinds of revolutionary music until 10 PM, and light (non-alcoholic) refreshments and good company will be available.
Let our voice be heard!
