August 8, 2017Richard Seymour delivers a lecture hosted by Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands
On Monday, August 14thSósíalistaflokkur Íslands organizes a midday meeting about Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the British Labour Party, and his position in contemporary politics. The keynote speech of the meeting is delivered by the British writer and political commentator Richard Seymour.
Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands invites Seymour to the country on the occasion of the meeting, as he is the author of a recent book about Corbyn,Corbyn: The Strange Rebirth of Radical Politics. Seymour's talk is titled „How Corbyn Slayed the Blue Beast“ and is described in more detail in the attachment.
At the meeting, there will be a unique opportunity for the public and the media to learn more about the unexpected success of Jeremy Corbyn in British politics. His victory in the Labour Party leadership election in September 2015 came as a great surprise to most political commentators. The same can be said for the party's good performance in the spring elections under Corbyn's leadership, where the party toppled the parliamentary majority of Theresa May and the Conservative Party.
The meeting will be held inthe lecture hall of Þjóðminjasafn Íslands on Suðurgataand starts at12:15. After Seymour's talk, questions from the audience will be invited. The program is expected to conclude no later than 13:15. The meeting is open to everyone.
Seymour's bookCorbyn: The Strange Rebirth of Radical Politicswas published by Verso Books last year andreceived critical acclaimA second edition of the book, rewritten to reflect the results of the spring parliamentary elections, is expected later this year.
It should be noted that the following day, August 15th, Richard Seymour will also appear onthe program of The Radical Summer University.
Richard Seymour has previously published a number of books on political issues, includingThe Liberal Defence of Murder(2008),The Meaning of David Cameron(2010) andAgainst Austerity(2014). He has maintained the popular blogLenin’s Tombcontinuously since 2003 and his articles have appeared inThe Guardian,London Review of Books, andAl-Jazeera.
