November 18, 2019The Samherji scandal: Cruelty of capital and spinelessness of the elite
All boards of the Socialist Party of Iceland approved the following resolution tonight:
On the occasion of the exposure of Samherji's crimes in Namibia and how the company's owners have managed to seize resources there, in Iceland and elsewhere, the Socialist Party of Iceland wishes to address the nation:
What offends you is the cruelty of capital. The public's demand must be:Capital out! What offends you is the spinelessness of the political elite. The public's demand must be:The elite out! What offends you is the absolute powerlessness of the common people in society: The public's demand must be:Power to the people!
The solution against the exploitation by capital, the betrayal of the common people by the elite, and the powerlessness of the public is called socialism. A good society can only be built with democracy resting on equality, human dignity, and solidarity. Capital tears down society. Socialism builds it up.
