The Socialist Party is not running

At a lively meeting of general members of the Socialist Party of Iceland this evening, the following resolution was adopted.

The Socialist Party was formed on May 1st last year. The party's members agreed that its first tasks would be to build democratic internal operations, elaborate the party's basic policy, and convene the Socialist Congress (Sósíalistaþing) in the autumn. This work is progressing well and a movement is emerging. But it is not finished. For this reason, the Socialist Party will not run in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Instead, the party will continue to work on building a mass movement that in the future will be active within the labor movement, in municipal councils, and in parliament.
