Socialist Coffee March 20: Class Division in the School System

Socialist Coffee March 20: Growing class division in the school system. How can we respond? Are city authorities blind to class differences? What is the responsibility of municipalities towards children growing up in poor households? Does the school system ensure that all children enjoy the same facilities and support from their families?

Auður Magndís Auðardóttir presents her research on class division in Reykjavík schools and Kolbeinn H. Stefánsson his research on the situation of poor children. Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir and Daníel Örn Arnarsson, socialist city councilors, call for proposals, actions, and other measures that can prompt city authorities to respond to the growing class differences in the school system. This not only affects children from less affluent homes but also deprives children from more affluent homes of access to society as it is, confining them within their own class, narrowing their perspectives, and depriving them of empathy.

All socialists and those interested in justice and equality are encouraged to attend and participate in a conversation about our children, schools, classes, and the responsibility of city authorities.
