Socialist Coffee: The status of pensioners and disabled people in the city

The Election Committee (Kjörnefnd) of the Socialist Party of Iceland and its city council group invite to a socialist coffee at Dósaverksmiðjan Borgartúni 1 on Wednesday evening, May 8th, at eight o'clock. The topic is the status of pensioners and disabled people in the city. What can Reykjavíkurborg do to improve the status of disabled people and senior citizens? What are the obligations of municipalities towards people whose income is insufficient for subsistence? Is the city's service to these groups sufficient, are their voices heard within the city system and the institutions that are supposed to serve these groups, and is sufficient consideration given to them in the city's planning and operation?

Although the focus will be on the situation in the city and the responsibility of Reykjavíkurborg, the meeting is not limited to the city, but will discuss the status of these groups in general.

Speakers will be: Bergþór Sóleyjarson, board member at Geðhjálp, Rósa María Hjörvar, chair of the policy group of Öryrkjabandalagið on wage issues, Margrét Sölvadóttir, columnist on the status of senior citizens, and Wilhelm Wessman, a pensioner, will discuss the lawsuit of Grái herinn against the state and the status of senior citizens following the wage agreements.

Socialist city councilors will participate in the discussion: Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir and Daníel Örn Arnarsson.
