March 5, 2019Socialist Coffee: Do you want to form an association?
Do you belong to a group that needs to organize its advocacy better? Do you feel there's a need for a Parents' Association – an interest group for families with children? An Association of Bus Passengers? A Debtors' Association? An Association of Tenants at Almenna leigufélagið? An Association of Retirees? An Association of Bankrupt Individuals and People on the Default Register? Or anything else? There are many groups that could take up more targeted advocacy. Without struggle, there will be no change. That is the lesson of history.
The meeting is organized by the Maístjarnan Support Fund. Maístjarnan is a fund that supports the less fortunate in building up and running their advocacy in organized groups, associations, and organizations. Maístjarnan works to empower and strengthen the voice of the less fortunate and assist them in presenting their demands and pushing for the future country to be shaped by the interests of the common people.
At the meeting, there will be a discussion about what organized associations do for the group and those who participate in the struggle, how the group is strengthened, but also those who contribute to the struggle. There will be a discussion about the difference between cliques and activist groups and how to build a powerful whole from a disparate group.
All those interested in a just society are encouraged to attend. People are encouraged to bring ideas for new associations, others that can be strengthened, or an open mind and heart; perhaps ideas will spark on the spot, perhaps you will meet people in similar situations and find a way to stand together in the struggle.
The meeting starts at 8:00 PM. The doors open at 7:30 PM. Coffee, tea, and refreshments are available cheaply. The meeting takes place at Dósaverksmiðjan, Borgartún 1.
