Nation Against Genocide – Statement of Support

The Socialist Party of Iceland declares its strong support for the mass meetingNation Against Genocide, which will be heldon Saturday, September 6in Reykjavík, Ísafjörður, Akureyri, Stykkishólmur and Egilsstaðir.We stand together with the labor movement, humanitarian organizations and the public in the clear demand that the Icelandic government immediately respond to Israel's ongoing genocide in Palestine.For nearly two years, the world has witnessed the unspeakable suffering of the Palestinian people: tens of thousands of civilians have been killed, including tens of thousands of children, and millions face starvation. The International Court of Justice has confirmed that Israel's actions amount to genocide and ruled its occupation of Palestinian land illegal. Despite this, Western states, including Iceland, have settled for empty declarations instead of applying real pressure.We say:Enough is enough.The Socialist Party of Icelanddemands that the government:

• Support South Africa's lawsuit against Israel and recognize that Israel's genocide against Palestine is a fact.

• Impose a trade embargo on Israel and ban trade with companies that profit from occupation and apartheid.

• Advocate for international trade sanctions against Israel and instead strengthen trade and relations with the Palestinian people.

These actions are in full accordance with international law. The inaction to date regarding Israel's genocide and occupation of the Palestinian people is a condemnation of the Icelandic government.Parliament and the government of Iceland operate under the mandate of the nation. They have a duty to reflect its will, defend international law, and exert full pressure to ensure that Israel immediately ceases genocide, respects Palestinians' right to life, land, and freedom.We urge all our people to attend the protests on September 6 in large numbers and show unequivocal solidarity with the Palestinian people.The time for declarations and evasions is over, the time for action has come.The Socialist Party of Iceland
