Additional content
As equality is the key to a democratic society, the state shall ensure its citizens adequate living conditions, wages, education, and healthcare. Thus, equal votes in parliamentary elections must also be ensured, regardless of residency.
Referendums must be utilized in important matters concerning public welfare, and Parliament shall respect them as required by a new constitution. A new constitution shall take effect immediately according to the process that began with the election to the Constitutional Council in 2010, which submitted a draft that was voted on and approved with 66.9% of votes cast. Furthermore, the constitution must be respected, but also treated as a living social contract, which can be amended by referendum.
To increase democratic participation and people's understanding of its importance, the school system must provide students, starting in primary school, with education and practical training in democratic governance and working methods.
The National Broadcasting Service shall play a key role in ensuring that information is as reliable as possible and accessible to all citizens. Investigative journalism shall be strengthened and enjoy legal protection.
It is important to democratize trade unions and pension funds so that special interests do not control capital flows and projects. These organizations need to be strengthened so that they work for the benefit of employees and protect their interests. Terms of office shall be limited (e.g., a maximum of 8 years) and members shall elect their leadership directly. Random selection shall also be increasingly used within such organizations, as random selection is an effective weapon against corruption and gives the public an opportunity to have direct influence.
By ensuring the operational basis of organizations working for public interests, such as consumer associations, tenant associations, disability organizations, and other entities, equality and democracy can be strengthened, and a society that supports public interests rather than special interests can be promoted. It is a matter of immense importance that the public has advocates in as many areas as possible concerning life and public health.
Profits from resources shall flow into common funds for all citizens. The right of future generations to these resources shall be ensured.
