Art. 1.Name and address.The political organization is named Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands. Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands operates according to law no. 162/2006 on the activities of political organizations. The address and main office of Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands is Bolholt 6, 105 Reykjavík.
Art. 2.Purpose of the organization.The purpose of Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands is to operate a socialist political organization that works towards the public gaining control over all major institutions of society, to improve the living standards of wage earners and pensioners, to promote freedom, equality, equal rights, inviolability and solidarity in society, and to fulfill responsibility towards ecosystems and the Earth's resources that fall to future generations. Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands achieves this purpose, among other things, by running in elections, both for Alþingi and municipal elections. Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands also intends to achieve its purpose by fostering socialist awareness and debate, working with oppressed groups of the public, and seeking influence within the institutions of society as far as possible.
Art. 3.Structure of the organization.The supreme authority of Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands in the formulation and implementation of political policy is the annual Sósíalistaþing, which is further stipulated in the Structure. Félagi can at any time only serve on one elected board (Framkvæmdastjórn, Félagastjórn, Baráttustjórn, Stjórnarráð or Málaefnastjórn). Membership on an elected board does not exclude the individual from serving on a randomly selected board (for example, Samviska, Kjörnefnd or Málaefnahópar). Each member shall not serve as a main member and alternate for more than twelve years on any board and shall not hold chairmanship in any committee for more than eight years. A member who is not eligible for one board for these reasons remains eligible for other committees. A member of Trúnaðarráð may not serve on other boards of the party.
Art. 4.Membership in the organization.Everyone is welcome to join Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands, regardless of gender, origin, religion or sexual orientation, subject to the authority of Trúnaðarráð to expel from the party, which is further stipulated in the Structure. Members can notify their resignation from the party by email.
Art. 5.Party Board. The Executive Board shall consist of 9 members elected at the Sósíalistaþing, for one year at a time. 4 alternate members shall also be elected. The Executive Board handles the party's affairs between Sósíalistaþing meetings. The Executive Board divides its tasks and shall elect from its ranks a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, and treasurer. The chairman convenes meetings. The signing authority is held by the majority of the Executive Board.
The Executive Board is responsible for the daily operations of the party, manages the website and promotional matters, handles the party's finances, maintains the membership register, and shall collect minutes and other documents regarding the party's decisions and activities between General Meetings. The Executive Board is authorized to call upon the assistance of members and others for the resolution of individual tasks as needed.
The Executive Board is responsible for ensuring that the party's activities are in accordance with the Laws and Structure and is authorized to resolve disputes regarding decisions of other party institutions (as described in the Structure) in accordance with the Laws and Structure. Decisions of the Executive Board may always be appealed to Trúnaðarráð as stipulated in the Structure.
Art. 6.Audit of accounts.The Executive Board selects an auditor and/or auditing firm for one year at a time.
Art. 7.Amendment to the statutes.The operating period of Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands is the calendar year. At the general meeting, held annually at the Sósíalistaþing, the results of the past year shall be accounted for.
The Sósíalistaþing is authorized to convene an extraordinary general meeting according to the provisions in the Structure, and it has the same authority as a general meeting. A general meeting shall be held annually and shall be announced with at least two weeks' notice in a verifiable manner. A general meeting is legally constituted if properly convened.
Only members have the right to participate in the work of the Sósíalistaþing. A simple majority of attending members decides matters.
The agenda for the Sósíalistaþing shall be as follows: 1. Election of meeting chair and secretary. 2. Report of the Executive Board presented. 3. Accounts presented for approval. 4. Amendments to the laws. 5. Determination of membership fees. 6. Election of the Executive Board and other boards as stipulated in the Structure. 7. Other matters.
Art. 8.Dissolution of the organization.A decision on the dissolution or winding up of Sósíalistaflokkur Íslands shall be taken by two general meetings, and a simple majority shall decide. The second general meeting shall dispose of the party's assets.
Art. 9.Where the provisions of these statutes do not specify how to proceed, the provisions of law no. 162/2006 on the activities of political organizations, as well as other applicable legal provisions, shall be complied with.
